As oil palm is by far the oil crop with the highest oil production per unit of land, is cheaper to produce, and is priced lower than most alternative vegetable oils (Carter et al., 2007; Sheil et al., 2009), and the Indonesian government promotes oil palm plantation as a way to alleviate poverty and advance rural development (Santika et al., 2019), oil palm expansion would continue to occur
FAQ
- QCan you set up a palm oil milling plant in Indonesia?ASetting up a palm oil milling plant in Indonesia can be a lucrative venture, considering the country's status as the largest palm oil producer in the world. However, embarking on such a palm oil processing project requires careful planning and a thorough understanding of the costs involved.
- QHow much does a palm oil processing plant cost in Indonesia?AThe first critical step in establishing a palm oil processing plant is to obtain suitable land, the cost of which varies according to location, soil quality and accessibility. In general, prime agricultural land suitable for palm oil cultivation may cost between US$2,000 and US$5,000 per hectare in Indonesia.
- QDo you test all your goods before delivery?AYes, we have 192% test before delivery.
- QWhich countries export oil palm products from Indonesia?AAs shown in Fig. 1, the export quantity of oil palm products (fruit equivalent) from Indonesia increased from around 24.5 Mtons in 1996 to around 149.4 Mtons in 2015. European Union and India were the two largest markets for Indonesian oil palm products, accounting for around 1/3 to 2/3 of Indonesian exports.
- QWhere does Indonesian palm oil come from?AIn addition to being the largest markets for Indonesian palm oil, Indonesia, China and India all tend to source from supply chains with comparatively higher rates of deforestation exposure. We estimate that these markets tend to rely on palm oil with twice the per-tonne deforestation exposure of exports destined for export to the EU.
- QIs palm oil causing deforestation in Indonesia?ADeforestation associated with the palm oil sector in Indonesia increased slightly in 2022 after falling for nearly a decade, according to the latest Trase data. Greenhouse gas emissions linked to palm oil production on carbon-rich peatland account for a substantial portion of the country’s total climate impact.
- QWhy is Indonesian oil palm demand rising?ATherefore, the trend of rising demand for oil palm products from Indonesia is expected to continue even if there are growing movements boycotting Indonesian oil palm products due to concerns about the threats to environmental conservation.
